HOUSEHOLD DYNAMICS, AWARENESS, AND ATTITUDE OF FARMERS ON ORGANIC VEGETABLE,LEGUMES, AND ROOT CROPS PRODUCTION IN MOUNTAIN PROVINCE

ABSTRACT

The study aimed to determine the household dynamics on organic vegetable, legumes and root crops production as well as the awareness and concerns of farmers on organic VELERO production in Mountain Province.

The study was conducted in the seven municipalities of Mountain Province consisting of Bauko, Tadian, Besao, Sadanga, Natonin, Bontoc, and Sabangan.
The results of the study showed that as to household dynamics, basically organic VELERO production is the work of the mothers. As to awareness, the farmers are moderately aware; and as to concerns, the farmers have much concern on organic VELERO production.

It is recommended that since mothers are responsible in producing organic VELERO there is a need to educate the people on the effect of too much labor on the health of the mother. Likewise, a follow-up study should be conducted to determine, whether the farmers are not violating the law on child labor.

Information education campaign should also be undertaken to educate farmers particularly on insect pest and diseases management. Activities that will address the concerns of farmers in organic VELERO production, especially on the marketability of organic VELERO should also be undertaken.
