Elmer D. Pakipac
ABSTRACT
The study was conducted to determine the commonly used ethnobotanical plants, their uses and farmers’ methods of preparation in Mountain Province.
There are 15 ethnobotanical plants used as pesticides in Mountain Province: 66.67% of these ethnobotanicals are used as insecticides; 26.67 % as fungicide and the remaining 6.67% is either used as herbicide or molluscicide. Application of ethnobotanical pesticides in the form of spray solution for vegetables and some legumes particularly garden pea are common during the first 45 days or plant’s vegetative stage except pigeon pea where application is done during fruiting stage. Farmers do not apply any kind of pesticide in root crops.
Ethnobotanical solutions are prepared in an indigenous manner whereby solutions could be in the form of cocktail where one extract is combined with other extract or detergent to increase potency.
