Arel Sia- ed

ABSTRACT

The study was conducted to identify the taxonomical classification on the fiber yielding plants in Mountain Province, collect and conserve the endemic textile fiber yielding plants in Mountain Province, and map the fiber yielding plants in Mountain Province.

The study made use of descriptive research design. Data gathering tools such as semi-structured interview schedule, direct observations and focused group discussions were done to obtain the needed information. Participatory Rural Appraisal was used to characterize and assess local community resources especially fiber crops.

Results and findings revealed that there are 18 fiber containing plants identified in Mountain Province whose common habitats are forests and mountains. Most of them are all located in western Mountain Province. Moreover, the taxonomical classification of the fiber yielding plants shows that most of the fiber yielding plants belong to the family of moraceae. The family of moraceae is known to be the potential source of fiber in the plant kingdom.
