(Hilary L. Tican)
Abstracts
The study sought to follow-up the employment status, eligibility and whereabouts of the graduates of the teacher education programs of Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) - Tadian Campus, namely, Bachelor in Elementary Education (BEED), and Bachelor in Secondary Education (BSED) from AY 1996-1997 to AY 2008-2009. The descriptive method of research was utilized through documentary analysis and graduate tracer survey.
The following conclusions have been drawn: the bulk of graduates of both Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED) and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) are employed as regular or permanent; with those who are not employed giving no job opportunity and lack of work experience as the main reasons for their unemployment; more than majority of both BEED and BSED graduates passed the Licensure Exam for Teachers; and both BEED and BSED graduates are employed as teachers by the Department of Education which is their number one employer, with majority of the BEED graduates employed in their own school districts, while less than majority of BSED graduates do not teach in their own districts. Being Overseas Filipino Workers and being entrepreneurs rank second employers for both courses.
Based on the conclusions, the following are hereby recommended: linkage of the institution with the Department of Education and with the Department of Labor and Employment should be strengthened especially as to address the lack of information in to availability of job opportunities; though generally the BEED and BSED graduates have good passing percentage for the Licensure Examination for Teachers, the Teacher Education Department needs to formalize the conduct of a regular review class for its graduating students; and a follow-up study should be done to ascertain the progress of Teacher Education graduates from time to time.
