THE PILLARS OF TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT AMONG ABATAN VAN DRIVERS OF THE HALSEMA HIGHWAY

ABSTRACT
This research assessed the level of awareness of Abatan van drivers on the pillars of traffic management, level of compliance of respondents to the mandates of the pillars of traffic management, the level of implementation of the pillars of traffic management among Abatan van drivers, and the degree of seriousness of the problems encountered in traffic management. The main data gathering tool was a questionnaire-checklist supported by observation and personal interview. Descriptive statistics and T-test were used to analyze the data gathered. The findings reflect that the respondents were very much aware of the pillars of traffic management. A comparison of the means of responses of the two groups revealed that there was no significant difference on the respondentsβ level of awareness. On the level of compliance, the respondents have much complied and their level of compliance did not significantly differ based on the comparison of the means of responses of the two groups. On the level of implementation, the respondents perceived it to be very much implemented. A comparison of the mean of responses of the two groups revealed that there was no significant difference on the level of implementation of traffic management to the respondents. On the degree of seriousness of the problems encountered, the respondents perceived that the problems cited in the questionnaires presented no serious problem. On the other hand, however, it is noted that problem on traveling beyond prescribed speed limits posed a moderately serious degree of problem encountered. A comparison of responses of the two groups revealed that there was no significant difference on the perceptions on the degree of seriousness of the problems encountered in traffic management.
