Ma’am Pilar Palangyos celebrated her 65th birthday on May 16, 2020 and her day of retirement fell at a time when social conditions are not normal because of the Covid-19 pandemic. There is no doubt that Ma’am Pilar is a character in MPSPC to reckon with. During the simple celebration of her “commencement”, not retirement, as insisted by Dr. Rexton F. Chakas, she stood by her character as an individual whose individuality has touched many people’s lives, within or outside the institution. In the College President’s message, he gave life to the letters of her name P-I-L-A-R with words which every person in the program may never forget.
Ma’am Pilar is Precious, Instantaneous, Loquacious, Audacious and Repetitious, according to Dr. Chakas. In her retirement message, Ma’am Pilar shared powerful lines that gave further substance to her character. She stated, “I will measure the value of my days in MPSPC not on what I got but on what the College gave me; not on my success but on my significance to the institution.” She added, “It will no longer matter what we own, our wins and losses will soon fade away. What matters is how we lived our lives.” She also thanked all the people in MPSPC who helped her and stood by her during her high and low moments. Ma’am Pilar served MPSPC for 24 years.
