Baguio City. Out of 17competing schools in the Cordillera Administrative Region, the Tala, The Mocking Bird (official student publication of Mountain Province State Polytechnic College) bagged the overall 4th runner-up spot in the recently conducted 17th Regional Higher Education Press Conference (RHEPC) – CAR last December 3-5 held at the Baguio Benguet Community Credit Cooperative.
THE WINNERS from Mountain Province State Polytechnic College pose with Dr. Mariano Marchan, Education Supervisor of Commission on Higher Education (CHED) – Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) in which this is their first time to be at the top 5 spot in the overall results of RHEPC – CAR last December 3-5 held at the BBCCC, Baguio City.
In the individual category, MPSPC garnered the following awards: Chariz Ballada, champion in Copyreading and Headlining (Filipino) and 1st runner-up in News Writing (Filipino); Digna P. Soliven, champion in Development Communication (English) and 1st runner-up in Copyreading and Headlining (English); Marcial III P. Pineda, champion in Poetry Writing (Filipino) and 4th runner-up in Photojournalism (Filipino); Henry B. Coyupan, champion in Column/Opinion Writing (Filipino); Ryan Louis A. Lucas, 3rd runner-up Development Communication (Filipino) and 4th runner-up in Poetry Writing (English); Denver C. Palasi, 2nd runner-up in Layouting; Clienteast Van B. Totanes, 3rd runner-up in Literary Graphics and Illustrations (Filipino); Miral T. Catubing, 4th runner-up Feature Writing (English); Adrian B. Rubang, 4th runner-up in Photojournalism (English); and, Jude P. Lalio and Jonathan B. Tuala, 4th runners-up in Comics Strip Drawing English and Filipino, respectively.
The first semester issue of Tala Newsletter also harvested awards in the group category: Champion in Development Communication Page; 2nd runner-up in News Page, Editorial/Opinion Page, and Layout; 3rd runner-up in Sports Page; and, 4th runner-up in Features Page. Moreover, the Day-day-eng ya Dad-dad-at (Rhymes and Tales) Literary Folio of MPSPC reaped the 4th runners-up in Literary content and Layout, respectively.
The Mountain Collegian of the Benguet State University reigned as the overall champion followed by the White and Blue of the Saint Louis University in the 1st runner-up. Charging back for their second time in RHEPC, the Corps of the Philippine Military Academy snatched the 2nd runner-up spot, while the Flame of the Baguio Central University landed on the 3rdrunner-up.
The 11 campus journalists from MPSPC together with the other top 5 winners of each event will represent CAR in the 16th Luzon-wide Higher Education Press Conference on February 4-6 to be held at the Hotel Felicidad, Vigan City, Ilocos Sur.
