For the first time in its history as a state college, the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College commemorated its 24th year of existence with the participation of the Bacarri campus in Paracelis, Mountain Province which will be the seat of the College of Agriculture when it becomes a state university. At least thirty-five students and faculty members came to the capital town to take part of the weeklong festivities of the college which is perceived as a precedent to future major college activities.

This year’s series of weeklong-activities which centered on the theme “Resiliency Towards Revitalizing our HERITAGE” is also a prelude to its silver founding anniversary in 2017. Dr. Victor B. Mariano, Regional Director of the Department of Science and Technology – Cordillera Administrative Region (DOST-CAR) and a member of the Board of Trustees of the college graced the Charter Day Program as guest of honor and speaker and whose presence was very apt with the celebration’s theme that covers the timely issue on climate change and culture.
PURPLE’S ROYALTY. The Charter Anniversary celebration’s dominant color of purple speaks about academic royalty and quality that MPSPC has so far achieved since 1992. This was given more meaning with the presence of Dr. Victor Mariano, DOST-CAR Regional Director as guest of honor and speaker.
In his message, he underscored some of the College’s strengths gained with its years of providing quality education since its inception in 1992. He averred that despite the College’s failure to comply 100% to the requirements for a university status, the College should still be proud in all its accomplishments, most especially of its 11,000 graduates who are now members of various public and private sectors nationwide. Furthermore, he maintained that the collaboration of MPSPC and the DOST is a big opportunity for the College to realize its vision-mission, goals and objectives through relevant and appropriate projects that help in the economic and social development of the small and the larger community where it stands. He culminated his talk by challenging the faculty members and the staff to work on researches focusing on the advancement and sustenance of Mountain Province products.
Mr. Mark Preston S. Lopez (partly hidden, left) presides over the series of meetings to plan the various activities of the Charter Anniversary celebration which were successfully implemented from January 10-16, 2016.
Among the highlights of the celebration that aimed at further solidifying the Administration’s HERTIAGE included a series of capability building enhancement seminars and student fora whose objectives were geared on strengthening the college’s research acumen, academic, social and cultural student activities like IGlympics, street dancing, gangsa night, math festival and nursing quiz, developmental activities for the faculty and staff like frolics and workshops and of course infrastructure enhancement like the inauguration of the newly constructed Science Lab building.
MPSPC was created via RA 7182 on January 17, 1992 and was signed by the late President Cory C. Aquino, also known as “An Act converting the Mountain Province Community College to be known as the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, Integrating therewith the Tadian School of Arts and Trades in the Municipality of Tadian; the Bacarri Agricultural High School in the Municipality of Paracelis; and the Eastern Bontoc National Agricultural School in the Municipality of Barlig, all in Mountain Province, and Appropriating Funds thereof.”
