BAGUIO CITY. 12 Tala, The Mocking Bird staff reaped awards in their respective events in the recently concluded 20th Regional Higher Education Press Conference (RHEPC) on November 30 to December 1, 2018 held at Baguio-Benguet Community Credit Cooperative, Baguio City, Benguet.
Marcial III Pineda (Bachelor of Science in Accountancy) is champion in Page Layout and Design, 2nd runner-up in Photojournalism English, and 3rd runner-up in Poetry Writing English. Pineda hailed as overall 2nd Highest Individual Pointer (tied with Philippine Military Academy) from more than 100 student journalists who participated the event.
Ulysis Langagan (BS Office Administration) is champion in Comics Strip Drawing Filipino, 1st runner-up in Column Writing English, and 4th runner-up in Editorial Cartooning Filipino. Clinteast Van Totanes (BS Engineering) is champion in Literary Graphics and Illustrations Filipino.
Roniel Fader (BS Secondary Education) is 1st runner-up in Development Communication Writing English and 2nd runner-up in Editorial Writing English. Coleene Tungawan (BS Engineering) is 1st runner-up in Feature Writing English and 2nd runner-up in Sports Writing English. Chanda Cindy Oya-oy (BSED – Math) and Henry Coyupan (BS Forestry) are 1st runners-up in Column Writing Filipino and DevComm Writing Filipino, respectively.
Crystal Malao (BSED) is 3rd runner-up in Column Writing Filipino, 5th runner-up in News Writing Filipino and Copyreading and Headline Writing Filipino. Alyza Caszy Umayat (BS Engineering) is 3rd runner-up in Sports Writing and Editorial Writing. Renato Villanueva (BS Information Technology) is 3rd runner-up in Photojournalism Filipino.
Jasmine Panyo (BS Engineering) is 5th runner-up in Copyreading and Headline Writing. Rico Changitan (BSD – English) is 6th runner-up in Editorial Cartooning English.
Coaches and advisers of the students are Jevera Domogen, Julie Grace Mi-ing, Imelda Pagandiyan, and Asterio Palsi.
There were 18 participating schools as follows: Abra Institute of Science and Technology (ASIST) –Bangued, ASIST – Lagangilang, Baguio Central University, Benguet State University, Baguio College Technology, Divine Word College of Bangued, Keystone College, Ifugao State University (IFSU) – Lagawe Campus, IFSU-Lamut Campus, IFSU – Potia Campus, Kalinga State University, King’s College of the Philippines, MPSPC, Philippine College of Ministry, PMA, Saint Louis University, St. Tonis College of Kalinga, and University of the Cordilleras.
Top five winners in their respective events and categories will represent CAR in the 18th Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference (LHEPC) on March 6-8, 2018 to be held in Villa Alfredo’s Resort, Barangay Baiti, City of San Fernando, Pampanga. /TALA, The Mocking Bird
