BONTOC, MOUNTAIN PROVINCE- The Mountain Province State Polytechnic College celebrated her 27th Charter Day in simple ceremonies and activities on January 17, 2019 marking the signing into law of Republic Act No. 7182 by President Corazon C. Aquino on January 17, 1992.
The commemoration started with an ecumenical service at 9:00, followed by the blessing and inauguration of the modern College Hospitality Management Laboratory, and by the Charter Day program. In the afternoon were the election of the officers of the Faculty Federation and the faculty seminar on ISO 900-1-2015.
In his Charter Day speech, College President Dr. Rexton F. Chakas commended the past and present crops of political leaders for their initiatives with regard to MPSPC. It must be recalled that the Bontoc Community College [later renamed as Mountain Province College] was established on April 10, 1969 during the incumbency of then Governor Jaime K. Gomez, Sr. The late Congressman Victor S. Dominguez successfully worked for the conversion of the college into a state institution. The late Congressman Maximo B. Dalog, Sr. worked for the conversion of the College into a university. The late Governor Leonard G. Mayaen and the present Governor Bonifacio C. Lacwasan initiated the funding of some projects of the College.
The College also commended the former staff and faculty members of the old Mountain Province College saying the present generation is just enjoying and reaping the results of the former’s commitment and hard work.
On the theme “Radiating into the Golden Age: Minting Excellence, Innovation and Participatory Leadership,” he said this “showcases a new tweak in our organization’s continuum narrative stirred by participatory attempts to redefine our institution’s identity in the global arena.” He also assured that the future of MPSPC would never be a product of accident but certainly a product of dedicated leadership and of the reliable characters within who will continue to sacrifice, toil and endure because of their passion and love for our institution.
The College President used the affair to rally the academic community behind his leadership, saying there is nothing to stop the evolutionary development of the College if each will do his part to trust and believe in each other’s share. He cited the very recent ISO 9001-2015 certification which drew participatory efforts from faculty, staff, and students. He said the certification means that the College committed itself and its services to meet the expectations of international standards. Still, the College is also fast tracking its compliance to the conditional requirements for the conversion of MPSPC into Mountain Province State University as provided under Republic Act No. 10583.
The new Hospitality Management laboratory houses the modern kitchen which boasts of the configuration and set-up of the Master Chef program on television. The same laboratory also boasts of a modern conference room.
The simplicity of the occasion was well noted by many in the academic community. The College President said it was deliberate because of the future enormous celebrations which are his formal investiture on February 1, 2019 and the 50th anniversary of the College on April 10, 2019.
