Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) officials visited OceanaGold, Inc., Nueva Viscaya on July 17-19, 2019.

MPSPC officials- Coordinator for Student Internship Program Emerson B. Olod, Dean for Student Services Development Joni L. Pagandiyan, Chair of Engineering Department Engr. Doroteo L. Bastian and Adviser for Engineering Student Interns Engr. Rose B. Amoy brainstormed with the Human Values Department and other sections and departments of OceanaGold, Inc. during the round-table discussion in the finalization of the MOA. The foreseen partnership between MPSPC and OceanaGold, Inc will provide the student interns the opportunity to complement their formal learnings with practical knowledge, skills and desirable attitudes through employer-based training for them to be more responsive to the future demands of the labor market.

Moreover, the team is confident that OceanaGold in its aim to extend corporate social responsibility will accommodate other related programs including Agriculture, Forestry, Accountancy, Information Technology, Office Administration, Hotel and Restaurant Management, and Criminology. “This partnership will not only be confined to the internship of our students in the Philippines since there is a possibility that they will have their internship in the other OceanaGold Inc., mining operations abroad. However, OceanaGold, Inc still has to come up with policies that will cover overseas operations,” they added.

The drafting of MOA rooted from the educational tour of the Geodetic Engineering students on May 8-10, 2019. According to Engr. Amoy, it was proposed during the visit at the Didipio Gold-Copper Mine in Nueva Viscaya of the OceanaGold, Inc that the agency is willing to accommodate interns of MPSPC so it was agreed that a formal visitation for the drafting of MOA will follow.

OceanaGold is a multinational, mid-tier gold mining company with significant global operation, development and exploration experience. It maintains operations in the Philippines, New Zealand and the United States specifically the Didipio Gold-Copper Mine in Nueva Viscaya, Philippines, the Macraes Goldfield Mine in the South Island of New Zealand, the Waihi Gold Mine in the North Island of New Zealand, and the Haile Gold Mine in South Carolina, United States of America.

Coordinator Olod is expecting that the MOA for the internship will be approved by the Board of Trustees not later than this August to accommodate the interested students for First Semester of School Year 2019-2020.

With the said developments, MPSPC is confident that the increasing number of partnerships will lead to the successful fulfillment of the College’s mandate to provide fully enhanced programs and services as it commits to deliver high standards of satisfaction responsive to the needs of its clients and compliant to applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
