With the opening of classes on August 12, 2019, students of Mountain Province State Polytechnic College - Tadian Campus will get to experience the newly inaugurated engineering building last August 1.
Engr. Doroteo L. Bastian, Chairperson of the Engineering Department, affirmed that the 300 students of MPSPC will benefit from the new building since the population of the engineering department grow consistently providing the most number of student enrolees in Tadian Campus.
“The new building will help inspire our students and faculty to elevate the existing passing rate of MPSPC Engineering Programs in the board examinations,” Engr. Bastian said in an interview.
Rogelio K. Balcita, Jr., Vice President for Administration and Finance shared in his message that the most significant paradigm is to allow stakeholders to determine priorities for the development of MPSPC.
“The College President emphasized before that we need to have a Budget Forum every time we need to determine priorities. In 2015, the engineering building surfaced as one of the priorities, unfortunately, it was not funded. In 2016, a budget proposal was submitted and funding was provided in 2017 for its Phase I. Subsequently, the Phase II was funded in 2018. The project was taken by the Gacoscos Construction with their bid amount at less than 17 million. Fortunately, even with the variance from the allotted amount, the outcome is visible and much appreciated,” Vice President Balcita said.
Project Manager Randee P. Gacoscos of Gacoscos Construction joined the inauguration and turn-over of the engineering building. He also said in an interview that the project is the first of their projects in MPSPC.
“In the bidding, it is expected that many contractors will participate. However, we will see the possibility of lowering our bid without sacrificing the quality of the project. This is our first bidding in MPSPC, so we look into the items of work which we can lower since we already have all the equipment,” Engr. Gacoscos said.
Gacoscos Construction has ongoing projects in MPSPC Paracelis Campus for the Agriculture Building.
College President Rexton F. Chakas is hoping that the building will contribute to the accreditation of the MPSPC engineering programs. Documents and other requirements for Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering are being prepared for the monitoring and evaluation visit by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). Stakeholders are hopeful that the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) will be issued before the year ends.
