True to its continuing desire to uphold quality tertiary education, the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College is preparing for the Institutional Sustainability Assessment (ISA) by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in July 2020.

As part of this significant preparation, MPSPC subjected itself to an ISA planning, enhancement and assessment and self-evaluation document (SED) orientation and preparation workshop last August 19-20 at the College Auditorium, Bontoc Campus. The orientation commenced the chain of activities lined up by the College Administration which will culminate with the visit to the College of a Review Team organized by the CHED – Regional Office in 2020.

Following the ISA orientation, Dr. Rexton F. Chakas, the College President convened a meeting of all the working committees for the five Key Result Areas (KRAs) of the ISA on September 30. During the meeting, the KRA committee members presented their respective outputs on the ISA self-evaluation. Dr. Rhoda B. Galangco was invited to share her insights about the presentations of the different committees by virtue of her ISA-related experience from her previous institution.

Overall, Dr. Galangco’s observations from the presentations revolved around providing strong evidence to support the claims pertaining to the process of self-evaluation. In addition, she also stressed that MPSPC should present the outcomes of the different endeavors being undertaken by the College in relation to the ISA-KRAs because evaluators are very particular about outcomes as evidence to support claims. During his closing message, Dr. Chakas disclosed the next step that the Administration will undertake once the outputs shall have been consolidated, that is, to form an editorial committee to review and critique the outputs. He also expressed optimism towards this endeavor despite the varying opinions that each one has throughout the ISA self-evaluation exercise. On October 1, 2019, the various committees convened again to finalize their respective work, particularly on tightening the report with evidence to support the self-evaluation rating. This convention culminated with all the reports of the various committees submitted to OVPAA for consolidation.

ISA is a tool developed by CHED to assess the systems practiced by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to ensure quality performance and international standing. In recent years, MPSPC subjected itself to assessment and evaluation by external agencies to affirm its strong desire to improve the quality of higher education that it offers to students. Following the ISO 9001:2015 certification on quality management system, the College is hopeful that it will hurdle the ISA certification.
