MPSPCian is new Luzonwide editors prexy
Three student journalists of Tala, The Mocking Bird, the official student publication of Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC), made a breakthrough in the history of MPSPC Campus Journalism when they nipped awards from the recently held 16th Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference (LHEPC) at the A&A Hotel, Puerto Princesa, Palawan last February 22-24.
Chariz L.Ballada, fourth year Accountancy student, became the first ever from MPSPC to garner the 8th Highest Individual Pointer when she bagged 3rd in the Editorial Writing Filipino and 4th in News Writing Filipino.
Another Accountancy student, Marcial III P. Pineda bagged 2nd place in Poetry Writing and 9th place in Layouting and Page Design. Moreover, Jonathan B. Tuala (Teacher Education) bagged 6th in Comic Strip Drawing.
Being the Editor-in-chief of the student publication, Pineda III extended his leadership in Luzonwide level as he was elected as the new President of the Luzon Association of College Editors (LACE). Together with other elected officers are: Cdt. Christian Michael O. Pena (Philippine Military Academy - CAR) as Vice-President; Nicole R. Caguite (Region IV-A) as Secretary; Mark Vincent Pineda (Region IV-A) as Treasurer; Khrys Gayo (Region IV-B) as Auditor; Jayvee William A. Abia (Region IV-B) as Business Manager; John Rey De Guzman (Don Mariano Memorial State University – Region I) as Press Relations Officer; and, Board of Director Khalyl G. Ferrer (Region I),Karen Angelie A. Abon (Region II), Karl Michael C. Nlerm (Region IV-B), and Earl Gunio (Region V – Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology).
“It has been years when MPSPC was striving to join the LHEPC. But, now we even clinch awards every year. Also, the leadership that was molded in the college alone is now extended throughout the whole Luzon with the guidance and support of our college officials,” Pineda, the new LACE President said in an interview.
The coaches are Julie Grace K. Mi-ing, Imelda T. Pagandiyan and Asterio L. Palsi.
Seven regions engaged in the battle of minds: Region I (Ilocos region), Region II (Cagayan Valley Region), Region III (Central Luzon), Region IV –A (CALABARZON), Region IV-B (MIMAROPA), Region V (Bicol Region), and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR). The University of the Cebu from Region 7 also joined the 13 writing categories in English and Filipino: Editorial Writing, News Writing, Sports Writing, Feature Writing, Opinion Writing, Photojournalism, Poetry Writing, Copyreading and Headline Writing, Comics Strip Drawing, Editorial Cartooning, Literary Graphics and Illustration, and Layout and Page Design. //Tala, The Mocking Bird Publication//
