With the aim to help revitalize and promote quality local coffee, the Montañosa Coffee Center (MCC) sought the accreditation of the Arabica Coffee Nursery at MPSPC Tadian Campus by the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI).

The MPSPC MCC team headed by the Director, Dr. Alver W. Claudio and the Nursery and Demo Farm Coordinator, Mr. Domingo L. Lawagey, with Administrative Officer of the Office of the President in Tadian Campus, Ms. Berlinda Pil-ingen, and the Dean of Tadian Campus, represented by her OIC, Dr. Jevera Domogen welcomed the representatives from the BPI-National Seed Quality Control Services (NSQCS) of CAR led by Dr. Catherine P. Balaoing who were present during the farm visit and evaluation in MPSPC Tadian Campus on June 8, 2023. This visit facilitated the verification of the submitted documentary requirements and initial evaluation of the nursery if it satisfies the requirements of the BPI for nursery accreditation. Salient comments and suggestions noted during the visit include the construction of Comfort Room near the farm, compost pit for the production of the potting media and resting area. Also, additional documents to be submitted include photo documentation of propagating tools and equipment and farm map/layout. The BPI representatives also informed the MCC team to maintain the mother plants and the required minimum inventory of seedlings during the next visit. In the afternoon, the team moved to CVSD-RED Center to monitor the existing mother plants and collect soil samples for testing. Furthermore, the MCC team was also assured of support from the BPI for the improvement of the coffee nursery.
