Aligned to its mandates in nurturing indigenous studies and education in its programs, the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College, through the Academic Affairs sector, co-organized with UP-Baguio and the Asian Institute of Tourism of UP-Diliman, a virtual lecture on “Indigenous Peoples and the 1972 World Heritage Convention” delivered by Prof. Federico Lenzerini of the University of Siena, Italy. Prof. Lenzerini’s lecture centered on the components of the 1972 WH Convention and how these provisions impact the rights of indigenous peoples and how World Heritage Sites could be co-managed by states and their indigenous groups. The conversation also provided participants to raise interesting and intriguing questions to the resource speaker, thus facilitating a very engaged conversation. The lecture touched on UN’s thrusts embedded in constructs like social justice, international policy, indigenous people engagement and their fundamental human rights, among others. This lecture has also opened MPSPC’s doors toward more collaborative internationalization endeavors through functional linkages with its academic partners.
