The MPSPC project titled “Og-ogfo: Unveiling the Transformative Impact of a Teacher Education Extension Project for Sustainability and Wider Community Replication” was conferred the 2nd Best Extension Project during the 2023 Philippine Extension and Advisory Services Network, Inc. (PhilEASNet) National Virtual Extension Symposium and General Assembly on November 28-29, 2023 via Zoom platform. The project highlights the College’s brand of distinction in community service framed by the following paradigms: (1) the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, specifically SDG 4 (Quality education), SDG 10 (Reduced inequalities), SDG 16 (Peace, justice, and strong institutions, and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the goals); (2) the National Extension Agenda Program; (3) the MPSPC vision, mission, goals, and thrusts, and (4) the community needs of Sadanga, Mountain Province. The winning entry documented the project which ran from 2014 to 2017 but was extended until 2019 because of the incessant request from the community partners for sustainable education-related activities. Dr. Mark Preston S. Lopez, then TED chairperson (2019-2021), together with Mr. Glen C. Gayagay, Susan A. Lopez, Jennifer Ruth C. Tuazon, Amelia Mary A. Atiwag, Jay B. Napanoy, Valerie Kerr P. Guinayen, and Jayvee G. Apolinar, led the group in documenting this project, leading to a research study that also won 3rd place in the Cordillera regional research forum in October, 2023.

An externally funded project of UP Los Banos titled “Establishment of rainwater harvesting facilities in selected farming communities in Albay province was adjudged 1st place while the extension project of the Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) titled “Sapasap nga Salun-at: Transforming communities through community-based healthcare services during the pandemic” was adjudged 3rd place.

Nine inter-related activities comprised the extension project’s implementation. Eight activities revolved around capacity-building workshops for teachers and students covering IMs and SIMs development, teaching strategies, educational technology, campus journalism, and action research, while the culminating activity was a grounded impact assessment endeavor. These undertakings were carefully planned and tailored to ensure the enactment of a programmatic, well-structured community outreach project, supporting sustainability and replication.
