BONTOC, Mountain Province - To inform new and old students including transferees and returnees regarding the different changes and updates within the college, Student Services Development Office held a General Orientation last January 16 at the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College Auditorium, Bontoc Campus.

 

Led by the SSDO Dean, Dr. Augusto B. Cacap, the said activity was attended by students from different departments in the campus.

Updates and changes within the different offices namely the Guidance and Counseling Office, Cultural Affairs Office, Sports, Accounting, Library Services, Registrar’s Office, Health Services, Student Services and Development Office, Security Services and Scholarship and Grants were discussed by the rsespective Unit Heads.

Upshots in the college are specifically the following:
“As part of the Charter Month Celebration, we will launch the first Rexton F. Chakas’ Open Invitational Sports Cup wherein Varsity players form one team representing MPSPC,” said Allan K. Tabec, Executive Director of the Office of Student Affairs as he discussed updates on sports and other related activities. “Set-up of the intramurals might change during the School Year 2018-2019 and will be patterned on the sports cup which will start on the 29th day of February and will end on April,” he added.

Concerns as regards to the increase of assessed and non-assessed college fees were also addressed by Atty. Imelda Guidangen, Accountant III, wherein she reiterated the 20% increase of the tuition fee per year until it reaches 300 per unit.

On scholarship and grants, Joan dR. Canisi, Director for Scholarship and Grants, presented updates on the incoming Republic Act 10931 otherwise known as Universal Access to Tertiary Education Act— an act proposed to Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education by providing free tuition fee and other assessed fees in State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), Local Universities and Colleges (LUCs) and State run Technical Vocational Institutions (TVI). The said program will take effect on the 1st semester of 2018.

Relevant to the said increase, “We collect not to save but to spend,” Tabec said as he explained the purposes of the proposed increase of fees, proposed additional new fees and the Student Services Fee during the open forum.

At the end of the orientation, Dr. Christie Lynne Codod, Executive Dean of Bontoc Campus, emphasized on a certain paragraph in the article entitled the Types of Teacher in the General Orientation Kit, “There are countless types of instructors, teachers or professors that you will encounter in the college. There is no single description for each of them. Learn to adjust to your teacher’s uniqueness. You will appreciate them eventually. Regardless of what kind of teacher you have, focus on understanding the lesson”.//TALA, The Mocking Bird
